The mother of all kitsch?

Virgin Mary obviously did not only give birth to a very famous person but also gave inspiration to the birth of kitsch. Found in Igreja Bom Jesus do Monte. Note: the swords are depicting her pain of having her son in the cross. I do not why there are 7 of them although the number of swords varies a lot from 1 to as many as you can fit into one statue.
