Montrose Beach At Dusk
Made by Comtesse DeSpair
I took this picture while kneeling down in the sand at Montrose Dog Beach in Chicago. I held Hilda the Holga as still as possible for about 10 seconds. Suddenly, as I approached 10 seconds, I caught a glimpse of a fast approaching object come from the right side. I was blindsided by my German Shepherd mix Bella who was delighted that I was so close to the ground. I thought I had taken my finger off the shutter by the time she showed up, but if you look closely you can see her faint outline as she zoomed into the picture. (I've added a note to point it out.) Pretty funny... Another funny thing: I cheated in the upper left corner because there was a loose piece of paper from the film roll floating around the inside of the camera that lodged itself up there and made a nice black mark that took up much of the corner. I figured I might as well burn it in and even it out so it looked a bit better. I didn't do the greatest job, but oh well... at least I fessed up!

Weirdo
Made by Comtesse DeSpair
Voodoo has this peculiar habit when he's hyper. He starts snapping his jaw and he just won't stop. It can go on for 10-20 minutes. He just snaps, snaps, snaps, snaps, snaps. Eventually, he starts going up on his hind legs and snapping into the air. This photo was taken when he was finishing up one of his jump-snaps at Montrose Dog Beach in May, 2008. It was originally shot in color and converted to black and white in Photoshop.

Blurry Beach
Made by Comtesse DeSpair
Montrose Dog Beach, Chicago. This was shot for the Brownie Hawkeye Flash March Challenge. I was trying to shoot under low light conditions without a tripod, and I thought it came out pretty nice although I did accidentally cut off the left side. I was expecting a slight blur and I thought it kind of added a nice effect to it.

Danger No Swimming
Made by Comtesse DeSpair
This old boat launch at the Montrose Dog Beach has probably not seen water for 10 years or longer. I really don't know. I find the No Swimming signs rather entertaining now, since the water is several hundred yards away from here. Not that I'm complaining - without the receding shoreline we wouldn't have the dog beach!

No Sand Diving
Made by Comtesse DeSpair
At one time - I have no idea how many years ago - Montrose Beach had a boat launch. Nowadays, the water level is far below the launch, but the diving warnings are still apparent. Photo taken with a Holga 120N using Kodak Portra 400VC film in March, 2008.

The Chase!
Made by Comtesse DeSpair
Voodoo runs for his life as big sister Bella closes in and Abby looks on. This photo was taken at the Happiest Place On Canine Earth - Montrose Dog Beach in Chicago - in the chill of March, 2008. Taken with a Holga 120N using Kodak Portra 400VC film.

Danger

Yeah, I'll bet there's no swimming here! The waters of Lake Michigan haven't reached this high in YEARS. Montrose Beach, Chicago. This shot was taken for the theme Trouble for the Brownie Hawkeye Flash group March Challenge.

Bella at the dog beach
Made by dogwelder
Bella was a six-month-old boxer that lived for a while with a bigger dog that would steal her food. The new owner said he's only had her for three days, and she's already gained weight.

Sit!
Made by Comtesse DeSpair
Bella gives the illusion of being a good dog at Montrose Dog Beach in Chicago. This photo was originally in boring washed-out color, which I converted to black and white in Photoshop.

Windy Day
Made by Comtesse DeSpair
Bella is having a bad ear day - not to mention a goofy mouth day - in the wind at Montrose Dog Beach, May 8, 2008. Photo taken with a Brownie Hawkeye Flash with the lens flipped.

Run, Run, Run
Made by Comtesse DeSpair
Bella speeds across Montrose Dog Beach (probably trying to chase down some poor defenseless fellow beach-goer) in May, 2008. Color shot converted to black and white in Photoshop.

No Warning Necessary
Made by alforque
No diving? Are you sure? Because I'm all about diving into the sand... like Uncle Scrooge in Duck Tales, swimming in his gold.
