Berliner Dom

The Berliner Dom photographed from the front. Berlin Cathedral (German: Berliner Dom) is an Evangelical Church in Berlin, Germany. It is located on Museum Island in the Mitte district, and was built between 1895 and 1905. Later the church of the Dominican Order (Schwarze Brüder), located at the south side of the castle, was used as the first cathedral. The first church at this site was a baroque cathedral by Johann Boumann, which was completed in 1747 and, in 1822, remodelled in the neoclassicist style by the Berlin architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. In 1894, on German Emperor Wilhelm II's order, this domed building was demolished and replaced by the current cathedral designed by Julius Raschdorff. It was much larger than any of the previous buildings and was considered a Protestant counterweight to St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. The pipe organ, built by Wilhelm Sauer, had 113 stops, including three ranks of 32' pipes on the pedal division, played by a 4-manual console. During World War II, the building was bombed by the Allies and severely damaged. A temporary roof was installed to protect what remained of the interior and in 1975 reconstruction started. The restoration of the interior begun in 1984 and in 1993 the church reopened in an event attended by Chancellor of Germany Helmut Kohl and televised nationwide in Germany. During reconstruction, the organ was fully restored, although the building's original design was modified into a simpler, shorter form. For more Berlin pics, click .

Double-Dome Berlin

Berlin Cathedral (German: Berliner Dom) is the colloquial name for the Evangelical Oberpfarr- und Domkirche (English analogously: Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church, literally Supreme Parish and Cathedral Church) in Berlin, Germany. It is the parish church of the Evangelical congregation Gemeinde der Oberpfarr- und Domkirche zu Berlin, a member of the umbrella organisation Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia. Its present building is located on Museum Island in the Mitte borough. The Berlin Cathedral had never been a cathedral in the actual sense of that term, since Berlin, let alone this Cathedral, had never been the seat of a Catholic bishop. When in 1930 the Holy See for the first time established a Catholic diocese of Berlin, the Berlin Cathedral had long been a Protestant church. St. Hedwig's Cathedral serves as seat of Berlin's Metropolitan bishop. Function and title of bishop, as used in the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg (under this name 1945-2003), comprise the Protestant bishop's regular preaching in St. Mary's Church, Berlin, being the bishop's domicile church with Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church being the second seat.

A big ol' thank you to all of you who have been following this series of pictures from Berlin. Since I started this series I have gained over 50 new Flickr contacts and the views on my Flickr account have gone through the roof! I've gotten so incredibly much attention for it. Also a big thanks to all of you guys who have commented and supported this little experiment of mine, seems like you've enjoyed it a lot. I might do this again soon, I have a few ideas in mind. Now I'm gonna quit photographing for a while, because I have so much stuff coming up that I unfortunately won't have much time left for photos. Until then, take care! -- This is the 34th and last photo in a series of analog photos I took when I was in Berlin for a week in October this year. All of them are taken with a Zenit TTL and the film is all Kodak Gold and Kodacolor. This has been some kind of diary, an experiment, a documentation of what it was like. Because one photo tells more of a story than a 1000 words. The series is called Berlin'10 and I've put all of it in . Facebook

I lavori iniziarono immediatamente, su progetto dell'architetto Julius Raschdorff in uno sfarzoso stile neobarocco.

Angel in my heart

Play upon your heart strings to me, I will sing a strange melody. Dance with me a magic ballet, stay with me 'til night turns to day. Let me in your dreams, angel in my heart. By a pool of darkening dreams love is slowly twisting downstream underneath the tortuos trees out into the sad, silent seas. Lock me in your arms, angel in my heart. How can I feel, how can I feel love when you're gone? How much sin, how much can true forgiving cost? I'm in your skin, I want to win back what I've lost. I can feel the salt on my skin, I can hear the birds on the wing. I can smell the wood on the fire, I can see the smoke of desire. Let me in your dreams, angel in my heart. Shot with Canon EOS 40D + Tamron 18-200mm Oh, I am very proud of this one. Its hard to shoot the famous Berlin sights from an unusual perspective, and even if there may be people who shot it from this one before, I havent seen any. I finally booked my first holidays for this year: I will be going to Oslo and Brussel in mid April. This will be awesome! If you are from or in Oslo or Brussels between April 16 and April 24, just send me a mail please. I am looking for people to shoot with! Would be more than cool! What a beautiful wedding! A wonderful church and many visitors. That is important, however, that two people have searched for and found the right partner. It was to be seen just as beautiful as the wedding was and how happy two people were by it. I can only wish they all the best!

Sorry, stupid title. But the first time I heard Berliner Dom, I just thought it sounded like been there, done (that). Anyway, this Berlin Dome is very very cool. A huge church inside that is basically a giant dome, and just as cool outside too. Don't have much to say about it other than I was thoroughly impressed. ----- The puzzle is complete

Lie back and think of... getting a shot of a dome - well, this is some ceiling! The cupola of Berlin cathedral, which was built beside the River Spree between 1894 and 1905. The building was largely destroyed in 1944 and restored to a state of genuine magnificence in the 1970s. In the crypt are the tombs of the Hohenzollern family.

This is a view of Berlin at sunset (well, almost) from the top of the Berliner Dom. While the weather was beautiful, from above you could see that the whole city is covered with fog. It's an HDR image (3 shots, -2,0,+2), tonemapped with Photomatix and cropped to 16:9 ratio to remove empty sky.
