The Belgenmonument was a gift from the Belgians to the Dutch after the first world war. During that war, 145,000 Belgians fled as refugees to the Netherlands. 20,000 of them ended up here in Amersfoort. It is built in a natural piece of clearing in the woods surrounding Amersfoort and is quite large as a whole. There are several buildings and a park with a fountain. The (english) title above this picture is the text above a second bench. It's a -poor- translation of this Dutch version.
