Interesting places in Beirut:Beirut (b+y+r+w+t+ translit: Bayrut) is the capital, largest city, and chief seaport of Lebanon. It is sometimes referred to by its French name, Beyrouth. There are wide-ranging estimates of Beirut's population, from as low as 938,940 people,^ to 1,303,129 people,^ to as high as 2,012,000.^ The lack of an exact figure is due to the fact that no "comprehensive" population census has been taken in Lebanon since 1932.^
Beirut was called the " of the Middle East" because of its outdoor cafes and Meditterean architecture and also in part because virtually all Lebanese people can speak French and English along with their native Arabic. Here are some places to see:

One of the fishermen told me in the exact words that his passion is the sea… no surprise! The fishermen community in this area are still very attached specifically to this spot in Beirut where their memories are there and gradually they are being pushed away by the new towers and developments… many many stories, this is just a brief introduction to what the older generations and professions are facing in a city that witnessed so much sadness and unrest. Last of which was the oil spill during the July war 2006 and the pollution that was caused, which almost killed all their summer season. Ain el Mriesseh, Beirut

Place d'Étoile in downtown Beirut. Ottoman and Art Deco Buildings reconstructed after the civil war by the Solideré Project. The rebuilt city centre appeared very clean and slick at first, almost surreal, but the empty setting was soon populated by cafes and shops and eventually adopted by the Beirut people and alive again. I took this yesterday night, the weather was wonderful, just a few minutes after this shot it started to rain and it got really cold! So me and my friend were lucky to get some night shots of the area....
