Snow in Inverness Scotland in March

Culduthel Road, approaching City Centre of Inverness. The rush-hour traffic has cleared the remaining snow but footpaths and shrubbery remains covered. After a mild February 2011, and an even milder first week in March, when it seemed as though spring had truly sprung and plants were sprouting, along come Mother Nature with a substantial snowfall in the early hours of Wednesday 9th March, Even in the city, we received a good 2 to 3 inches by daylight, although the relative warmth of the ground (and good work by the Highland Council and Trunk Road snow clearing/gritting teams) meant the main roads were fairly clear early. During the morning sunshine and further snow showers alternated, and then in the afternoon it melted in earnest, assisted by rain - but by this evening it ominously turned to sleet, to snow, to sleet, to rain, to snow etc. Forecast is more snow tomorrow(Thursday) during the day - preceded by very strong winds. Deep joy! Roll on summer!
