This is what happens when you willfully neglect a building. Could it be that the Corporation of London purposefully fail to maintain this historic structure hoping that it will become uneconomic to repair? Part of the 'abandoned' General Market at Smithfield - flagged for demolition in the name of progress, CrossRail, Ken, The 2012 Olympics and yet more office space (which will undoubtedly remain empty for some time in the current climate.
