The stream at Basing Fen at Old Basing, England, UK, during this weekend's bitterly cold weather. Basing Fen (or Basing Water Meadows), is a peat moor, now provides a home for many small birds, such as blue tits, great tits and long tailed tits. In winter you may see redwings and fieldfares. At the edge of the meadow is this chalk stream. The water is extremely clear as it rises from chalk springs on the western edge of the fen. Watercress beds used to be located further up stream. The stream runs into the River Loddon near Old Basing. With the temperature at minus 5 degrees celcius I found that my rechargeable batteries would not work at all. So I had to resort to ordinary use once alkaline bateries. The water is not frozen here as it is flowing.

Freezing weather at the picnic and barbeque are of Basing Lime Pits at Old Basing. The British Isles has experienced almost a fortnight of freezing conditions. Temperatures as low as -9 °C have been fairly common throughout southern areas of the UK, with temperatures struggling to rise above freezing in some places. Once part of a private estate, the Lime Pits now provide an opportunity for walking, playing and picnicking in a rural location. The site forms part of the Basingstoke Canal Heritage Footpath Trail, which runs across basingstoke common and finishes at Basing House. It follows a route rich in wildlife and cultural heritage.

An evening out scaring away the doggers of Basingstoke. An evening of sillyness and long exposures ( not the naughty type ) with the . One of the last shots of the evening, two minutes standing around giggling followed by a flash of blinding light... If you were one ( about 20 ) of the sad gits who pulled into the car park looking for something, watch out, we might photograph you next time !!!

A freezing Redbridge Lane at Old Basing. The cold spell caused significant problems in many areas of the country. The Government's bill for Cold Weather Payments is expected to rise to more than £100 million, with Londoners becoming eligible for the payment for the first time since the scheme was introduced a decade ago.

A bitterly cold night out with the . The moon was out in full lighting up the countryside around Basingstoke. This shot was taken looking towards the A30, the Black Dam Roundabout and Basingstoke. I was so cold ( badly dressed ) that even the Pub didnt warm me up!

Messing about with a small LED key fob torch. It was the coldest night since last winter and we were out playing, the moon was so bright, everything had shadows!
