Baidoa
Baidoa (Somali: Baydhabo) is a city in south-central Somalia, situated 256 kilometers (159 miles) by road northwest of the capital Mogadishu. It is the capital of the Bay Region, which is historically inhabited by the Digil and Mirifle clans. It is also the name of the district in which this city resides.Top photos chosen by u all:

Lt. Col. Johnson of the 22rd ARW Public Affairs Office interacts with Somali children at an orphanage in Baidoa. He led them in the ABCs and counting, and they were enthralled. The children could hardly stop touching our hands, faces and hair. We must have looked pretty strange to them, but they were so curious and friendly.

American soldiers and journalists walked openly and casually down the streets of Mogadishu and outlying towns like this one in 1992 before al Qaeda-linked gangs such as Aideed's unleashed their campaign to halt aid. I shot from the back of a moving pick-up and had only a 50mm lens on my ancient fully manual Nikon.
