Missed Out On Childhood
Made by Shpadette
Italo Calvino- Il Sentiero Dei Nidi Di Ragno ----------------- I tried to translate the description: it's a part of an Italian novel Il Sentiero Dei Nidi Di Ragno.. Pin (is the boy's name) has a hoarse voice like an old child: he says every gag (meaning a joke or simply a phrase) quietly, serious, then all of a sudden he burst out in a laughter in i that seems a whistle and his red and black freckles flock aroud the eyes like a swarm of wasps [...] In the evening, every two days the German sailor comes at his sisters (she is a prostitute). Pin waits him in the alley every time he comes up to ask him a cigarette; the first times he was generous and gave even three, four at a time [...] -Cuckolds...Cuckolds...-Pin answers imitating them and swallowing smoke in his nose and gullet, bitter and rough smoke at his child throat, but which you have to cram until you get tears and cough angrily, you don't even know exactly why [...] They laugh at him grooved explained and they slap him ad pour him a glass. Pin doesn't like wine: is rough against his throat and wrinkles his skin and puts him the craving to laugh, shout and being mean [...] he would like to go with a band of mates to whom explain the place where spiders do their nest (in reality they don't do it) or with which make battles with reeds in the moat. But the other kids don't like Pin: he's the adult friend, Pin, he tells adults things that make them laugh and get angry, not like them who don't undestrand anything when adults talk. Pin sometimes would like to get with kids his age [...] But kids leave him aside, at some point they start to beat him up; because Pin has two slender little arms and he is the weakest of all [...] So Pin has no choice but to shelter in the world of the adults, the adults who also turn him their back, the adults who also are incomprehensible and distant for him as for the other kids, but who are easier to tease, with their desire of women and that fear of the carabinieri (sort of italian gendarme) [...] I hope it is comprehensible despite my bad english and the fact that the translation can't be as powerful as the original passage :)

Arap Camii - Arap Mosque
Made by Celalettin Güneş

Sultanahmet ve Ayasofya /Sultanahmet and Hagiasophia, Istanbul
Made by Senol Demir
Istanbul (Turkish: İstanbul, see the names of Istanbul) is the largest city in Turkey and 5th largest city proper in the world with a population of 12.8 million, also making it the second largest metropolitan area in Europe by population, and the largest metropolitan city proper.[6] Istanbul is also a megacity, as well as the cultural, economic, and financial centre of Turkey. The city covers 39 districts of the Istanbul province.[7] It is located on the Bosphorus Strait and encompasses the natural harbour known as the Golden Horn, in the northwest of the country. It extends both on the European (Thrace) and on the Asian (Anatolia) sides of the Bosphorus, and is thereby the only metropolis in the world that is situated on two continents. Istanbul is a designated alpha world city. In its long history, Istanbul has served as the capital city of the Roman Empire (330–395), the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire (395–1204 and 1261–1453), the Latin Empire (1204–1261), and the Ottoman Empire (1453–1922). The city was chosen as joint European Capital of Culture for 2010. Historic areas of Istanbul were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.[8] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul

Istanbul - Oct 2008 - Turkish Girls Waiting for a Tram
Made by gareth1953
BEST SEEN IN ITS ORIGINAL SIZE TO SEE JUST HOW BEAUTIFUL THESE YOUNG GIRLS ARE. My wife was working in Istanbul for a few months so I took a week off to go visit her. As we were walkiing down from the Galata Tower we decided we would take the tram to the Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed ). I was sorting my camera out to take a picture of the tramlines converging on the bridge over the Golden Horn when one of the young women waved and asked me to take a picture. With trams arriving from both directions I had just enough time to get one shot. It was the perfect start to a wonderful trip. Some of the most warm and friendly people on the planet. For a photographer as well it is a must visit place to go. After being up for over 18 months and having been seen 183 times without a single comment I decided to give it the Piknik treatment. I straightened it and brought the girls front and centre in the hope that visitors will notice just how happy and beautiful this group of girls are. This was truly one of those 'Make my Day' captures. You know, when you realise lugging all that equipment about all day really is worthwhile. 29/03/11

Istanbul in my heart
Made by Alesfra
Just returned from Istanbul with the camera and the heart full of that beautiful city. Its colors, its bustle, its bazaars, its controlled chaos, monuments, gastronomy, people, history and monuments. Although what I find really beautiful is the color of Istanbul at dusk. When you almost can not believe it's true. Everything is tinged orange-red along the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus. I think I love Istanbul.

street view
Made by delikizinyeri
Galata Tower, Istanbul, Turkey The tower was originally built by the Genoese in 1348 as part of their fortifications. It was later used as a fire watch tower by the Ottomans (beginning in 1717). It is now a tourist attraction with a wonderful panoramic view of the city - and fortunately, an elevator! There is a restaurant/cafe on the upper level (where you see a wrought iron balustrade in the photo). For those of you who, like me, avoid heights, this is a nightmare. The floor of the circular balcony slopes down and out and the wind can be incredibly strong making it feel as though gravity is going to win the battle taking you and your camera down to ground level without using the interior elevator!

whirlpool of life
Made by bostankorkulugu
Reading these letters Nicholas felt a dread of their wanting to take him away from surroundings in which, protected from all the entanglements of life, he was living so calmly and quietly. He felt that sooner or later he would have to re-enter that whirlpool of life, with its embarrassments and affairs to be straightened out, its accounts with stewards, quarrels, and intrigues, its ties, society, and with Sonya's love and his promise to her... Istanbul (Turkey) - Tünel
Made by jaime.silva
The Tünel is a short underground railway line. It is an underground funicular with two stations, connecting the quarters of Karaköy and Beyoğlu. The underground railway tunnel goes uphill from close to sea level and is about 555 meters long. Inaugurated on January 17, 1875, the Tünel is the second-oldest subterranean urban rail line in the world after the London Underground (1863), but the first subterranean urban rail line in continental Europe. merry-go-round
Made by bostankorkulugu
Beneath the weight of the world I can be found Among the chaos and the wheel, scattered all around. On the wild windy wave I'm tossed, cast away and lost, Now I understand what those sad songs say. Make up your mind to be happy, Life is a merry-go-round. If you miss out this time, Don't let it fret your mind, Love will come round in the end... On the Bridge
Made by CharlesFred
A day in Istanbul and I never made it to the Bridge. There were various reasons for this, firstly because I was dropped off in Kumkpai, secondly, I had only a flat battery for my camera which constantly needed re-charging and thirdly, because I met up with jean Paul, first for liunch, then for tea. Anyway, here are two shots from teh Galata Bridge from a previous visit to my favourite city.
