On , Oct. 22, 2008 __________________________________________________________________ Walking through this cemetery makes me recall those days when I strolled down Arlington Cemetery a couple of times. So clean, so neat. And the sight of the unknown tombs. No soldiers this time. There were a few birds chirping in the morning breeze (one of them visible here). It was quiet, like in most places where I grew up. A few years back I strolled down arlington cemetery with the same feeling, until I reached the Iwo Jima memorial, and there were a few words on its base -- all the battles that the US marines have endured -- one of them, to my dismay was Philippine Insurrection. I was guessing, that was the Filipino American War, but hey, that was our country, why were we called the insurgents. Looking back to my history, ah, it was Spain. They sold us in the treaty of Paris, because at that time, the Philippines wasn't a sovereign country yet. Ah, so that's why. Funny, how things, sometimes can be more understood by softly thinking a little deeper. Like these epitaphs and tombstones, they are all marked with crosses. Are they all Christians? Which Christian. Reminds me of the many religious groups in the world today, and how many of them really looked stupid by fighting out which religion is the true religion. Fact of the matter is, we may never know. Maybe not in our lifetime. So to all those zealots out there who think only your group will be saved, be quiet. All I can say is, be at Peace with your God, whatever you think Him to be. And be at peace with your beliefs. Clark Cemetery Clark Field, Angleles City Pampanga Philippines

15th Hot Air Balloon Festival

15th Hot Air Balloon Festival

15th Hot Air Balloon Festival Location Clark Field, Pampanga Feb 11, 2010 This was my first time to shoot the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and I have to say I truly enjoyed it. I fully understand why my photo buddies (PiPho) continue to visit every year despite attending the last 4-5 years! The road trip from Metro Manila was quite easy; traveling on the NLEX at 4am in the morning was a cinch. It took us only about 1 hour (plus another to get the group together) from Shell Balintawak to Clark Field. We were finally allowed to enter the field to shoot the preparations at around 6AM. The sunrise orange light was fading and we had to shoot fast. The shoot didn't last long, roughly only 1-1.5 hours at most. My friend Jason was right! mabibitin ka! (you will “crave for more!”) they tell me that some photographers would return everyday of the event! I'd like to thank Joseph Leh for pushing me to join them on this photo trip. I definitely see the novelty of the event for photogs it's not far from manila, you can still work in the afternoon when you get back, and despite its close proximity to metro manila, the shots you can produce are awesome. (Normally I find that traveling farther away from manila like the Visayas produces more special especially for fiestas/festivals) I feel that there is big room for creativity in the possible shots you can take. This event is truly a must see for photogs, at least once in their photography life... I for one would surely do my best to go back every year!

243/365: Happy Tipsy Tuesday {Were We Really That Young} Edition!

243/365: Happy Tipsy Tuesday {Were We Really That Young} Edition!
Made by pixelmama
Project 365 Tuesday • August 31, 2010 Since I really messed up (fell off the 365 wagon) for the month of August; I figured I would just go ahead and end the month with a bang! I have now uploaded one vintage photo of both Rachel & Jackie. Now we all made fun of them and their chubby little cheeks (Thanks Mom!); I thought, why not make fun of mom & dad! So here we are in 1980, sipping a San Miguel in the Phillipines. Dear hubby was on TDY to Clark AFB and I flew in to spend a week with him. OMG! Look how young and thin we were!! Look at my hair! What in the world was I thinking? I have perfectly STRAIGHT hair, in case you were wondering! And look at the old man's mustache and his crazy part! Now you are thinking I used texture, right? Not this time! All natural vintage texture here folks! This is scanned from a badly faded & yellowed photo. It is a wonder I got this much detail! On that note; let the laughs begin! Happy Tipsy Tuesday everyone! I would like to dedicate this to a wonderful Flickr Friend, . Perhaps he can help me with the proper Tagalog word for Cheers!

US Navy Patrol Bombing Squadron VPB119 - May, 1945

US Navy Patrol Bombing Squadron VPB119 - May, 1945
Made by Son Of Paul
Group photo of Navy Patrol Bombing Squadron VPB-119 taken at Clark Field, Luzon, Philippines in May, 1945. My dad served with VPB-119 as a radar countermeasures technician aboard PB4Y-2 'Privateer' bombers during WWII. As you can see, they were still living in tents at the time; the seabees (CBMU 606) had just started laying out sites for quonset huts when this photo was taken. You can just barely make out the silhouette of Mt. Arayat in the right background. Arayat is an extinct volcano about 10 miles east of the base and is seen in many of the photos taken at Clark. VPB119 only flew combat missions between March and August 1945 but, during that time they lost 79 men, KIA or MIA. The entire squadron was comprised of approximately 225 officers and enlisted men so, they lost over 1/3 of their complement in 5 months. See

On , Oct. 27, 2008 __________________________________________________________________ I'm not very particular with love songs, but some lyrics are poetic enough to describe a phenomenon. Take this song from the Platters. It was like decades before I was born, but the lyrics are fitting enough for the Song's title: ...Heavenly shades of night are falling, its twilight time Out of the mist your voice is calling, its twilight time When purple-colored curtains mark the end of day Ill hear you, my dear, at twilight time Deepening shadows gather splendor as the day is done Fingers of night will soon surrender the setting sun I count the moments darling till youre here with me Together at last at twilight time... -The Platters, Its Twilight Time Sunset at Clark Field Angeles City Pampanga, Philippines

Fleet Air Wing 17, Aug. 15, 1945 - Japanese agree to surrender

Fleet Air Wing 17, Aug. 15, 1945 - Japanese agree to surrender
Made by Son Of Paul
Although the formal surrender did not take effect until Sept. 2, 1945, the first notice from the Japanese that they would agree to surrender reached the front lines in the Pacific on 15 August 1945. This photo is of the flights schedule board at US Navy Fleet Air Wing 17, Clark Field, Philippines on Aug. 15th. Patrol Bombing Squadrons VPB119 and VPB104 operated under FAW 17; the assignments for that day are listed on the board. Notice that all missions had departed between 0500 and 0600 but, the surrender notice apparently hit the ops office at 0713, resulting in the recall of all planes. [For more on VPB119 see ]

Gears of Love

Gears of Love

Framed wall sculpture featured in C' Italian Dining in Clark Field, Angeles City. This is absolutely gorgeous! I love the Victorian steampunk feel of the piece. It was for sale, but I was too scared to ask how much it was, hahaha :D The coolest thing is, you flip a switch, and the lights in the frame come on, and the gears move too! If I had a proper study/library, this would definitely be on my wall! Oh, and Gears of Love isn't really its name. I had copied down the title and the name of the artist, but I couldn't find it anywhere :/ *Clark Field, Angeles City, Philippines

This is the bus that takes Air Asia and Tiger Airways passengers from Clark Airport to Megamall and to Pasay Terminal. It's better to get off at the Pasay Terminal if your hotel is in the Ermita, Malate and Pasay area. There's another airport shuttle, PARTAS bus that shuttles the Clark passengers to Northern Luzon. I have yet to take a picture of the Partas Bus.

These girls were so unhappy because they were stuck with some chinese guys that probably had down syndrome. They were some of the better looking girls I'd seen all night. The funny thing is the girls would pay no attention to their respective John so we made a sport of sending them drinks. I'm pretty sure I saw Saddam Hussein and Winston Churchill last night.

Street Kids

Street Kids
Made by NateVenture
These street kids beg for money all over Angeles, especially Perimeter Road. They often carry babies with them to make you feel even more sad for them. The bad thing is that they don't want food and they work in gangs run by teenagers or adults who take any money that they collect. It's heartbreaking.
