Leroy the Little Red Robot - An Introduction

Leroy the Little Red Robot - An Introduction
Made by biskitboy
One night recently I was out searching for the Ball of Light [http://www.flickr.com/photos/biskitboy/sets/72157622454865956/]. The Ball of Light had disappeared and I saw a small red flash out of the corner of my eye. When I looked back I noticed there was a little red robot! I couldn't believe my eyes. How on earth does a little red robot come from a Ball of Light. Now the little red robot started squeaking and bleeping and making all sorts of odd noises. But it seemed to notice that I was looking at it with a blank look of wonder, yet complete confusion. Next thing I knew there was a sharp pain in my ear, and I could understand what it was saying!!! It said hello earthling, my name is Leroy. Bloody hell! my name is Leroy, who are you?, so I filled him in quick smart! I am here on your planet as an observer (in a rather robotic voice), it is said that earthlings are not quite right. It is said that you treat your planet and things on it in the wrong way, that you do not treat others right. I must report back to my home planet on these matters, and you must document this for my leaders! What the hell, I don't have time for this carry on. So I told the little robot, Leroy, that I could not do it. you do not seem to understand earthling. I may look very little, red and cute, but if you do not do as I say your life will never be the same again. I have robot powers beyond your imagination, and you do not want to test me! So begins the adventures of Leroy the little red robot. It seems I have a new job, as if I didn't have enough on my plate with the Ball of Light! So it seems I have to help Leroy find the bad things he talks about, but I hope I can show him some wonderful things at the same time. I hope you will support me by following the adventures of Leroy the Little Red Robot.

Adelaide Oval from the InterContinental Hotel (mid-2011)

Adelaide Oval from the InterContinental Hotel (mid-2011)
Made by Adriano_of_Adelaide
I took this from a window bay on the 22nd floor of the Intercontinental Hotel. You can see the half-renovated Adelaide Oval and North Adelaide beyond. In the far distance is the Barker Inlet at Port Adelaide. Adelaide Oval will only look this way for a brief period in its life. The big western grandstand was only finished in 2010, and by 2013 the tent-like stands on the other side, as well as the red stand with the two towers, will be demolished and replaced by modern pavilions to match the one at left. The red-roofed buildings in the foreground are the tennis stadium and the gym, which presumably won't be touched.

Adelaide Railway Station, North Terrace, ca1878

Adelaide Railway Station, North Terrace, ca1878
Made by State Library of South Australia
B 9193 Photographer: Samuel White Sweet. The first station was built in 1856 and in 1878 a nicely detailed second storey was added to the original station entailing alterations to the original portico. In 1925 the entire station was demolished as it was too small to house all the Railway administrative staff who were scattered around the city. I found this texture somewhere and I thought it apt for this photo taken at his mother's graduation. I often think about his future and wonder if he'll change the world in some way. Irrespective of what his future holds, there's no doubt this little man has changed my world in such an awe inspiring way. I could never imagine life without him. He has taught me so many things and amazes me daily. Watching him grow up and being a part of his life is the single greatest feeling in the world.

Adelaide Station

Adelaide Station

Adelaide Station form the inside. It's different in that the trains drive in then drive out the same way they came. OpenTTD teaches me that this is an inefficient way of doing things, but it seems to work here. The interesting thing is that there can be mroe than one train per platform. They sort of stack on top of each other. I haven't worked out what benefit that has other than perhaps increasing capacity at peak hour.

Part of a set of three pictures I took for the vertical lines theme on dailyshoot2011, the hotel is situated on the banks of the River Torrens in Adelaide and is right next to the railway station. The photograph caught my eye for the repeating patterns of the windows and the small terrace umbrella adding scale.

This was taken from a window on the 22nd floor of the InterContinental Hotel. It shows the west part of the CBD, and beyond that, the western suburbs and coast. Note the new hospital being built where a train depot used to be.

2 February 2011 - I pass through here twice a day. Tonight I have missed the peak hour traffic because I stayed back late at work. I think it would be a rare moment, even for Sleepy Adelaide, to see this hall empty.
