Notre Dame, Paris
Made by Rita Crane Photography
The beauty of Notre Dame in Paris shines through even on this wintry day with its overcast soft sky. I was walking along the banks of the Seine and there she was, all her fine ancient details still with us after all these years! Notre Dame was built on the site of other churches and temples. Here is what wikipedia says about Notre Dame: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_dame_de_paris which includes this timeline of its construction : 1160. Bishop Maurice de Sully (named Bishop of Paris), orders the original cathedral to be demolished. 1163. Cornerstone laid for Notre Dame de Paris - construction begins 1182. Apse and choir completed. 1196. Nave completed. Bishop de Sully dies. 1200. Work begins on Western Façade. 1225. Western Façade completed. 1250. Western Towers and North Rose Window completed 1250–1345. Remaining elements completed And ..... for a very very different sort of architecture, check out my other post for the day here:

Notre Dame and Ile St. Louis, Paris
Made by Rita Crane Photography
Luckily I went out that afternoon during a storm .... or I would have missed this sky. When I looked up I couldn't believe that the day was giving me such a treasure and it proved once again that after rainstorms is such a great time to take pictures. As I crossed the Pont Sully over the Seine, just north of the Ile St. Louis, I couldn't help looking up!! The natural arch made by the clouds breaking up after the storm seemed to glorify Notre Dame, and I loved how the scene reminded me of the Dutch masters and their paintings full of silver light. I love this point of view on the historic center of Paris: Notre Dame on the Ile de la Cite, and the houses along the quai of Ile St. Louis. ]

view from Saint Michel bridge in Paris
Made by bratan
here is a pic taken in the heart of Paris where are located famous places like Saint Michel and the latin area, the Conciergerie, the Sainte Chapelle church and the Cathedral Notre Dame. After the bridge you can see and on the right bank of the river la Seine is located the Louvre. This is the original framing with the real sky (contrasted of course). Have a wonderful day :-) (recommended)

notre dame blues

Notre Dame de Paris was one of the first Gothic cathedrals, and its construction spanned the Gothic period. Its sculptures and stained glass show the heavy influence of naturalism, giving them a more secular look that was lacking from earlier Romanesque architecture. Notre Dame, Paris, France.

Impasse

I went down to the quays and thought I'd come back up using the stairway further upstream when I got there, to my surprise, that part was flooded... so I had to double back. Only the ducks could make it across.
