The Bird's Nest in HDR

Playing around with some high dynamic range wide-angle shots of the bird's nest. Looks like the guy in the bottom left is doing some tai-chi. Also, you can notice the ghosting artifacts as the people in front moved throughout my bracketed exposures. This shot came out a little blurry as it was hand-held. No tripods were allowed inside the Olympic venues. In fact, without a ticket to track & field or swimming, you weren't getting anywhere near the Olympic green. UPDATE: I notice this image is getting some love from Shanghaiist


Triathlon Venue - Ming Tombs Reservoir

I was blown away by the triathlon venue. The Olympic organizers chose the Ming Tomb Reservoir (十三陵水库) north of Beijing. It couldn't have been more dramatic or picturesque, especially with the traditional Chinese pagoda looming on top of the reservoir island. Plus, the notorious Beijing weather cooperated with a clear, warm day. I used my new 15mm fisheye lens to capture a wide angle on this shot.

The Olympics is two days away!! Even though there is no hype here in Taiwan (I don't even know which channel is doing the coverage), I'm all swept up in Olympic fever. As frequently noted, there were a lot of empty seats for an event that supposedly sold out months ago. To be fair, this shot was taken probably 30 minutes before any events began. Prevailing empty-seat theories include: many tickets gifted for the sake of guanxi but ultimately unused and ticket agency hording.

Since we missed the last Olympic bus and the subway had already closed, I had plenty of time to play around with long exposure shots of the Beijing traffic in front of the Olympic green. Come to think of it, I think my playing around with long exposure shots may have caused us to miss the bus.
