Starting on a boat trip to the Archipelago you pass this fountain by Carl Milles. It is part of a school of sculpture that looks quite kitschy to our contemporary eyes. Carl Milles designed this sculpture in 1946, as a monument for peace and a celebration of the creation of the United Nations. However, he only managed to produce a bronze model. 50 years’ later Milles' former pupil, the American sculptor Marshall M Frederics created the full size sculpture .. His Royal Highness Carl XVI Gustav inaugurated the sculpture on 8 September 1995.
