Moss carder bee (Bombus muscorum) Mosshumla
Made by Rαtαtoskr
I'm pretty sure this is a Bombus muscorum, but it's very hard to distinguish it from Bombus humilis and Bombus pascuorum, and all three are available in the area where this one was photographed all though the Moss carder bee is much more common close to the coastline and this is a bit inland but I'm inclined to believe that it still is a Moss carder bee because of all the furry white on the underside which according to the photos I've looked through points in that direction even if I have not found any confirmation on that in any scientific documents. The destruction of the biodiversity in favor of monotonous agriculture and the intense use of pesticides have destroyed the multifaceted flora needed for all bumblebee species. For.ex. In Britain, until relatively recently, species of native true bumblebee were recognized along with six species of cuckoo bumblebees. Of these, three have become extinct, eight are in serious decline, and only six remain widespread. This is a worldwide catastrophic event and not limited to a few countries. Last decade Bumblebees have been increasingly cultured for agricultural use as pollinators because they can pollinate plant species that other pollinators cannot by using a technique known as buzz pollination. For example, bumblebee colonies are often placed in greenhouse tomato production, because the frequency of buzzing that a bumblebee exhibits effectively releases tomato pollen. Hopefully this will stop their extinction. Ref.: Wiki and www.artdata.slu.se
Birth of a Motto: in Helmand Province, 3/3 H&S Marines Prove Their Versatility, Mettle

Pfc. Aramis C. Sandoval, administrative clerk, Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, holds security at a vehicle checkpoint near Forward Operating Base Geronimo, Afghanistan, May 30. Sandoval from Bronx, N.Y., will have served in the Marine Corps for a year on June 7. He wants to become a lawyer and hoped serving as a clerk in a legal office would give him some experience. Instead he is part of the H&S guard force, a group of mostly non-infantrymen who perform infantry duties in the H&S battle space. I give all the respect to the grunts, Sandoval said with a tired sigh. This work is not easy at all. It's physically and mentally demanding. The pressure is the biggest challenge. I don't ever want to look back and think I got a Marine hurt because I wasn't doing something right. Regimental Combat Team-7, 1st Marine Division Public Affairs Photo by Sgt. I'll go sailing...
Made by Mario Hernandez (on and off, mostly off)
View On Black Experimenting with HDR. Beyond The Sea Somewhere beyond the sea, Somewhere waiting for me, My lover stands on golden sands And watches the ships that go sailing. Somewhere beyond the sea She's there watching for me. If I could fly like birds on high Then straight to her arms I'd go sailing It's far beyond the star, It's near beyond the moon. I know beyond a doubt My heart will lead me there soon We'll meet beyond the shore We'll kiss just as before And happy we'll be beyond the sea And never again I'll go sailing I know beyond a doubt My heart will lead me there soon We'll meet, I know, we'll meet beyond the shore We'll kiss just as before And happy we will be beyond the sea And never again I'll go sailing No more sailing So long, sailing, sailing, no more sailing Good-bye, farewell my friend, no more sailing So long sailing, no more sailing No more, farewell... No more sailing

Rosenfeld Barn, 27282 520th Avenue, Kelley, Iowa. The Rosenfeld Barn was built around 1918, on land George Rosenfeld purchased in 1873, to house a nationally recognized purebred herd of Aberdeen-Angus cattle. In 1923 the Rosenfeld herd had the International Grand Champion Aberdeen-Angus Cow at Chicago. And, in 1925 the herd produced the Grand Champion Herd of steers over all breeds at Chicago. The huge (96 feet by 66 feet) barn has a poured concrete foundation that goes up inside walls higher than usual. Cattle rubbed against the concrete instead of wood leaving less deterioration. The pegged barn has 27 four-paned windows for light and ventilation. Buyers from throughout the United States used to attend breeding stock sales at the barn. Really liked the fact that this barn has been completely restored. Try hitting L. Textures by French Kiss. www.frenchkisstextures.com
Ebb and Flow video

I look at certain images and wonder how the photographer got that image. Or what kind of processing did they do to make their images pop. So I figured I'll show a little snippet of how I achieved this particular shot. When I have time and I'm not running around like a mad man trying to find comps, I'll try to shoot little videos or take pictures of my set up while I'm shooting. Most of the time I send the images or videos to or Aaron M to rub in some good light I caught. I know there is a few of you out there that have got the it blew the f*ck up call or video from Jave. It's a running joke that we do when we are out shooting. Check the video out, excuse me for the shakyness, I was trying to shoot and film at the same time, it's a short video but fun to look at.

The area I work in is amazing for street art, it springs up almost overnight. I was lucky enough to see the guy painting this as I was walking back from the gym yesterday. Had to get a picture of it today :) His name is David Walker, a celebrated artist who works mainly with spray paint. His exhibits and sells all over the world, as well as being a big member of the street art scene. I feel privileged to have not only seen three works of his in the street near my work, but also to have seen him creating this one. Twitter | Facebook

Custom modified Toyo view camera, set up for DSLR body. Rear body replaced with cradle for DSLR body, modded belows with custom built camera mount that uses a T thread adapter so this will work with any brand that you can get a T adapter for (Nikon, Pentax, Minolta,Canon etc.), Monorail shortened and a new bracket fabricated for the tripod mount so that the original tripod mount is no longer between the front and rear standards. This allows all standard view camera movements with both the front and rear standards, tilt, shift, rise. This is a test run before putting this one up for sale I am only building a few of these. Photo taken with a Nikon coolpix p6000.
I'm Just A Hologram

Confession: I haven't had a soda in probably 8 years. I cut back in high school when I was training for the various sports I played, then I started drinking them more heavily when I started college. I was putting on weight and had to look at where my biggest diet changes were and sodas were the first thing I cut. Without changing anything else (diet or exercise) I lost 10 lbs. Waiting for that day to be over

We just wrapped up the 2nd edition of the 10X10 Challenge competition last night. We taught it would be easier being the 2nd event but still, it took 5 months of planning, 15 hours on the shooting site, over 75 hours of video post production and DVD compiling for a 2 hours event delivery. I must be nuts... Out of that chaos, I manage to get a 15 minutes one-on-one with Valerie Michetti, one of the most professional person I was given the opportunity to run into, for a coupe of snaps. Shot hand held with no external lighting. Shot at 1600 ISO, 10mm.
Bonner Bridge Sunset
Made by Stephan Herzog Photography
A beautiful sunset beyond the Herbert C . Bonner bridge on the Oregon Inlet. After taking a couple of shots to get the sun setting just below the arch of the bridge. I didn't realize the bird in the picture until after I got home but I was trying to watch the sunset and the birds diving into the water for fish. The bridge is scheduled to be replaced by a new 4 lane bridge. Construction beginning at the end of 2012 at a cost of $261 million dollars.

Quick shot of the bag 'fully loaded'...everything shown here easily fits inside the bag and there is still tons of room for all the other camera bits and pieces that are currently scattered around my house. It may have been easier to tag had I lined things up :) Read more about this

Spotted this cool bit of graff on my way around site this morning. It is indeed on Fox Road, so named, I believe after the old fox pub that once offered every convenience for bathing in the River Frome in the late C18th. It is also the first ever Campaign for Real Ale Pub though now the historic building is closed and locked up. Shame

I nearly swerved off the road when I saw this on a recent trip to northwest Iowa. It's somewhere north of Highway 20 on Highway 4. Most of the year it's nothing special, but the color of the leaves and the late afternoon light were a good combination. :) Texture by Distressed Jewel and Sarah Gardner. Nicer on black.
